Demand
- Purpose
- Log early-stage requests and ideas before a program or project exists, and triage them in one table.
- Who is this for
- Everyone
- Permissions

A demand is an early request or idea, captured before any program or project is set up for it. Requesters log what they need. Owners review the list, set priorities and move each request through triage.
Your workspace may use a different name for Demand. An admin can rename it in Terminology.
How it works
Demand is its own module, listed in the left menu as Demands. It works like the other modules: a table with tabs, filters and the record panel. See Filter, sort and group for the table controls.
A demand is a standalone record. It has no child tables, no roll-ups, and no built-in link to a program or project.
Default fields:
| Field | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Name | The request, in a few words. Required. |
| Status | Where the request is in triage. |
| Priority | How urgent it is. |
| Description | The detail of the request. |
| Requested date | When it was raised. |
| Needed-by date | When the requester needs it. |
| Requested by | The person who asked, from Staff. |
| Assignee | The person who owns the request, from Staff. |
Status options are New, Under Review, Approved, Converted and Rejected. Priority options are Low, Medium, High and Critical. Admins can rename, reorder, add or remove the options in Entities and custom fields.
Status has no enforced order. You can move a request to any status from any other, for example reopening a rejected one.
Log a demand
- Open Demands in the left menu.
- Click Add Demand. The Add Demand dialog opens.
- Enter a Name.
- Optional: fill in Description, Requested date, Needed-by date, Requested by, Assignee, Status and Priority.
- Click Add. The demand appears as a new row.
Triage demands
- Open Demands.
- Filter or sort by Status or Priority.
- Click a status pill in the table and pick a new value, or open the record and change it there. The pill shows the new status.
- Click the Assignee cell and choose an owner. The row shows the owner.
Save a filtered view as a tab, for example "New requests", with Create and manage tabs.
Open, edit or delete
Click a row to open the record panel. It has Overview and Details tabs, plus Knowledge for linked notes. Click a field to edit it. For the panel itself see The record panel.
To duplicate or delete a demand, open its row's Row actions menu. Deleting asks you to confirm and removes nothing else, because a demand has no child records. See Create, edit and delete records.
Good to know
- Converted is a label, not an action. Gembaa does not create a program or project from a demand for you. Create the project yourself. If you want a link back to the demand, ask an admin to add a relation field.
- Export works as in other modules, and only admins see Import data. See Export data and Import from CSV.
- Demand records have Comments, so you can discuss a request in a thread beside its panel. Open a row and click the Comments icon. Who can read and post is set on Demand's Comments permission. See Comment on a record.
- In a new tab the read-only ID column, the record key such as the prefix and number, comes first. A tab made before it existed hides it; turn it on in Customise. Name cannot be hidden.
