Set up for your team

Recipes for starting tabs and workspace settings, for admins and team leads.

Who is this for
Admins and team leads

Two recipes for getting a team started. Admins do these steps; team leads can ask for them.

Why use it

Each person building their own tabs and settings costs time and gives different answers. Presets and a planned setup put the same starting point in front of everyone.

Example: An admin fills Persona on each Staff record, saves a Projects tab as a Pinned preset for Finance, and everyone with that persona sees it.

Give a team a good starting tab

The right tab in front of each team, so nobody builds it by hand. Admins do these steps; team leads can ask for them.

  1. Fill Persona on each person's Staff record, for example Finance.
  2. Build the tab on its page, with the filters, columns and highlights you want.
  3. Right-click the tab and choose Save as preset.
  4. Enter a Name and choose the Type: Pinned for a fixed tab, Default for a starting tab people can change, Suggested to only offer it.
  5. Choose the Persona the tab is for, then click Save.

Pinned tabs reach everyone with that persona at once. A new Default reaches only people who have not opened that page yet; others pick it up with Reset tabs to defaults. See Preset tabs.

Set up a new workspace in order

A new workspace goes smoothly when the steps are taken in the right order. Admins do these steps.

  1. Turn features on or off, then rename entities in Terminology, before you build anything on them.
  2. Add custom fields and choose the allocation capture mode before anyone plans.
  3. Import Staff and Projects from CSV, then set up access control and check a few people with Explain access.
  4. Fill Persona on Staff records, then create the Pinned and Default tabs each persona should start with.

The full twelve-step order is in Administration at a glance.
